A meeting was held to launch The Mediterranean Marine and Coastal State Report, prepared by UNEP MAP provides information on the overall nature of Mediterranean ecosystems and defines pressures affecting the state of Mediterranean’s environment, to which 21 countries have coast with high-ranking officials from Turkey, representatives of the contracting parties of the Barcelona Convention, in Turkey, NGOs partners to the UNEP/MAP and the press (n=50) on 16 January 2013 in Ankara.

33 representatives of 8 fishery cooperatives from Gökova and Datça-Bozburun SEPAs visited Foça SEPA to exchange experiences between 3 and 5 October 2012.
Sustainable Tourism Trainings were delivered to representatives (n=41) of governmental bodies, local authorities, NGOs, private sector and universities at Foça SEPA and Ayvalik Islands Nature Park between 5 and 6 November 2012. more

The meeting on the “Benefits of FRAs and Designation of Potential Areas for Datça-Bozburun SEPA was held with intensive participation of local fishermen (n=51) on 10 December 2010 in Selimiye.
E-learning platform and multimedia materials to enhance the knowledge and skills of Business Development Unit and Local Management Units were developed. A new module on Biodiversity, Protected Areas and Introduction to MCPAs was also prepared. more

The National Marine and Coastal Protected Areas Strategy and Action Plan was drafted through three workshop/meetings (n=223) held with participation of project stakeholders, academicians, NGOs and experts on July 6, July 10-12 and August 16 2011.
Project Briefing and Training seminar on communication strategy training was delivered to EPASA local staff (n=7) on 28 July 2011.

Saros Gulf SEPA Symposium aiming at introduction of EPASA and SEPA management system to local stakeholders (n=88) was held on 30 May 2011.
UNDP & TUSSIDE signed a MoU to facilitate the preparation of the National MCPA Strategy and Action Plan.

The second Steering Committee Meeting was held on March 28 with high level participation
The main decisions taken by the committee were:
1. Approval of the Project Inception Report,
2. Approval of Preparatory Works for Capacity Building Programme of the MCPA Training and Implementation Center,
3. Approval of Project 2011 Work Plan and Budget. Three of the SC members were visited and informed about the status of the project prior to the SC meeting.

The Management Plan Guidelines for MPAs and Action plans of the Marine Species/habitats prepared by UNEP-MAP RAC/SPA have being translated to Turkish.
The draft design of the project internet site has been presented to EPASA for approval. A Graphic Designer was also hired for design of printed materials. more

A draft Legal announcement for the establishment of the local units of EPASA was finalized. The establishment of the training and implementation center in Datça-İnbükü was approved by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. more

The project coordinator, an administration assistant and seven experts were appointed by EPASA. Business Development Unit was established within EPASA, and three experts were appointed for the unit. more
