33 representatives of 8 fishery cooperatives from Gökova and Datça-Bozburun SEPAs visited Foça SEPA to exchange experiences between 3 and 5 October 2012.
Sustainable Tourism Trainings were delivered to representatives (n=41) of governmental bodies, local authorities, NGOs, private sector and universities at Foça SEPA and Ayvalik Islands Nature Park between 5 and 6 November 2012.
Project team participated the Integrated Coastal Zone Management National Congress between 14 and 17 November in Antakya, and a special session was dedicated to the project on capacity building, valuation of ecosystem services, and revenue generation mechanism.
Introduction to Marine Protected Areas – MPA 101 training was delivered to 22 MPA practitioners at the Marine and Coastal Protected Areas Training and Implementation Center in Akyaka, Mugla between 20 and 24 November 2012.
The second Mediterranean MPA Forum 2012 was held by the MedPAN in partnership with the project in Antalya between 25 and 29 November with participation of the managers of the protected areas, decision makers, scientists and the institutions working in socio-economic areas at Mediterranean scale.
93 sandbar sharks were observed in 105 free diving made in monitoring activities between June and October 2012 in Boncuk Cove, Gökova SEPA.
Project Manager presented the project achievements at the International Conference on Land-sea interactions in the Coastal Zone organized by the Inter‐Islamic Science & Technology Network on Oceanography in Lebanon on 6-8 November 2012.
The Economic Valuation of the Blue Carbon Value of the Posidonia sea grass meadows was presented at the side event organized by the GEF Secretariat in CBD COP-11 Conference in India on 11 October 2012.
Cost off-setting mechanisms for Mugla and Izmir SEPA Branch Directorates were assessed.
The feasibility studies were carried for the sustainable diving tourism in Foça SEPA, for sustainable fisheries management in Akçapinar Lagoon in Gökova SEPA, and for management of the mooring sites in Göcek-Dalaman Coves of Fethiye Göcek SEPA.
UNDP/GEF Regional Technical Advisor Mr. Johannes Robinson paid a visit to Ankara and project sites between 2 and 7 December 2012.
The monitoring study on the status of Mediterranean monks seals in Foça SEPA revealed 45 sightings for 2012.
The Marine Biodiversity Inventory Study for Ayvalik Adalari Nature Park has been carried out in August 2012. The preliminary results shed 508 species presence at this PA.
