The Project Manager participated in the TRT Izmir Radio Program to brief about the Project and the Mediterranean Marine and Coastal State Report on 25 January 2013.
A training on stakeholder engagement was organized for Libyan Government Officials in Akyaka MCPA Center (Turkey) by WWF MedPO and US NOAA on 10-13 February 2013, and local stakeholders were organized to share knowledge and experience in their countries.
A meeting was held to draft the by-law for the MCPA Training and Implementation Center with representatives of Mugla Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization and Mugla Sitki Kocman University(n=17) on 15 February 2013 in Akyaka MCPA Center.
A meeting was organized to explore the potential and possibilities of daily use sites in SEPAs including Göcek Mooring Sites, and also discuss on the modality of the MELSA public firm to replicate this good example to the similar places elsewhere with the Deputy Governor of Mugla and representatives of MELSA and GDPNA (n=12) on 19 February 2013 in Ankara.
A mission to Mugla SEPA’s was organized with Mr. Haoliang Xu, Deputy Regional Director for Europe and the CIS on 26 and 27 February 2013. During mission, pending issues in Mugla province such as LWGS were solved with the Governor of Mugla.
Three NGOs were funded collaboratively with the COMDEKS fund of GEF/SGP on the ghost net prevention and clean-up, responsible fishery, and marine ranger system establishment. These NGOs are: the Underwater Research Society Ecological Research Group, the Gökova Sailing Club, and the Mediterranean Conservation Society.
The Local Working Groups were established in Mugla on 14 March 2013.
A meeting was held to evoke the actual projects lead in Turkey, to present French Agency the Conservatoire du littoral and its international activities, and envisage cooperation opportunities with representatives of (n=18) Conservatoire du littoral, PIM Initiative, GDNAP, Izmir Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization, Mayor of Foça on 14-15 March in Ankara and Izmir-Foça.
The inventory study on the monitoring the status of fish stocks in Gökova SEPA No Fishing Zones, and Datça-Bozburun SEPA and Selimiye and Orhaniye Bay NFZs was continued on 4-10 February 2013.
